Senior Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric) Contract: 3 Days per Week (Tuesday to Thursday)

Overview We're seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimisation of a modern enterprise data platform. This is a hands-on contract opportunity suited to someone who can quickly integrate into an existing team and contribute from day one.
The successful consultant will play a key role in building scalable data solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, helping to establish best practices across data engineering, platform architecture, automation, and deployment processes.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance scalable data platform components using Microsoft Fabric.
- Build and maintain secure, reliable data ingestion frameworks connecting to a range of source systems, including APIs, databases, event-driven services, and file-based feeds.
- Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines and support the ongoing evolution of the organisation's data architecture.
- Implement and maintain development standards including source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and release processes.
- Write high-quality, production-ready code using Python and SQL for data transformation, orchestration, and analytics workloads.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, documentation, and governance practices to improve platform reliability and maintainability.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data solutions align with business and operational requirements.
- Strong commercial experience delivering solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, including capabilities such as:
- OneLake
- Lakehouse Architecture
- Data Warehousing
- Data Pipelines
- Data Factory
- Dataflows
- Advanced proficiency in Python, including experience with:
- PySpark
- Pandas
- API integrations and orchestration
- Expert-level SQL development skills, including performance optimisation and complex data modelling.
- Proven experience integrating data from a variety of sources, including REST APIs, GraphQL endpoints, databases, event streams, and flat-file data feeds.
- Hands-on experience with modern DevOps practices for data platforms, including:
- Git-based workflows
- CI/CD pipelines
- Automated testing frameworks
- Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar tooling
- Demonstrable experience delivering data platforms from initial design through to production deployment.
- Exposure to Google Cloud data services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, or Dataflow.
- Experience working with large-scale marketing, customer, digital, or media-related datasets.
- Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and engineering best practices in cloud environments.
