Overview We're seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support the design, development, and optimisation of a modern enterprise data platform. This is a hands-on contract opportunity suited to someone who can quickly integrate into an existing team and contribute from day one.
The successful consultant will play a key role in building scalable data solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, helping to establish best practices across data engineering, platform architecture, automation, and deployment processes.
This position operates as part of a shared engineering function and requires commitment for three days per week. 
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and enhance scalable data platform components using Microsoft Fabric.Build and maintain secure, reliable data ingestion frameworks connecting to a range of source systems, including APIs, databases, event-driven services, and file-based feeds.Develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines and support the ongoing evolution of the organisation's data architecture.Implement and maintain development standards including source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and release processes.Write high-quality, production-ready code using Python and SQL for data transformation, orchestration, and analytics workloads.Establish monitoring, alerting, documentation, and governance practices to improve platform reliability and maintainability.Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data solutions align with business and operational requirements.Required Skills & ExperienceStrong commercial experience delivering solutions within the Microsoft Fabric ecosystem, including capabilities such as:OneLakeLakehouse ArchitectureData WarehousingData PipelinesData FactoryDataflowsAdvanced proficiency in Python, including experience with:PySparkPandasAPI integrations and orchestrationExpert-level SQL development skills, including performance optimisation and complex data modelling.Proven experience integrating data from a variety of sources, including REST APIs, GraphQL endpoints, databases, event streams, and flat-file data feeds.Hands-on experience with modern DevOps practices for data platforms, including:Git-based workflowsCI/CD pipelinesAutomated testing frameworksAzure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar toolingDemonstrable experience delivering data platforms from initial design through to production deployment.Desirable ExperienceExposure to Google Cloud data services such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, or Dataflow.Experience working with large-scale marketing, customer, digital, or media-related datasets.Familiarity with data governance, metadata management, and engineering best practices in cloud environments.
